The 2020 West African Examination Council (WAEC) was approved to start on 6th of April, 2020 before, currently it has been postponed indefinitely because of the spread of the deadly disease called Coronavirus in the west Africa countries, the body said this on the 20th of March.
Mr. Patrick Areghan, who happened to be the Head of National Office Council, released in his that the Examination Timetable would be reviewed when the deadly disease has been pandemic subsided.
The spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) had killed several people according to latest update from health expert, up to Nine thousands of people had been killed and it has also infected over 200, 000 others in almost 60 countries which Nigeria is included since the outbreak of the disease in Wuhan, China, end of December, 2019.
In Nigeria only, government has confirmed like 22 cases of Coronavirus in the different states, after when four persons were tested positively in Lagos last week.
In the statement released by WAEC read:
“The West African Examinations Council in Nigeria, nay, the West African sub-region, has decided to put on hold the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates, 2020, earlier scheduled to commence on April 6, 2020.
“This is as a result of the impact of the novel and deadly Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and the serious implications it has for the conduct of the WASSCE for school candidates, 2020, coupled with the anxieties it has generated among the populace.
“This decision is a demonstration of the organisation’s concern and support for the various protocols being put in place by the Federal and State Governments of Nigeria and the governments of the other member countries to check the spread of the disease.” Said Mr. Patrick
The statement directs all the students should stay indoor till further directive from WAEC, who will review the time another Examination Timetable would be released.
